Ferrari team boss
Mattia Binotto has not previously concealed, to consider a possible participation of Ferrari in the American
IndyCar Series. And certainly with the inferior performance of the Italian team in
Formula 1, that rumor is getting stronger.
Roger Penske, who currently owns both IndyCar and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, said earlier this month that Ferrari is "definitely interested in participating", and now Indycar President Jay Frye believes that a third manufacturer will arrive "sooner or later". Frye told Autosport.com: "Roger (Penske) has a huge impact on motorsport. I think that will open more eyes for the value and marketing opportunities that IndyCar has to offer. That's why I definitely think that sooner or later a new team will join. Ferrari? That would be great."
Ferrari's changing business world
When asked whether Frye would see Ferrari as the most obvious company to join Honda and Chevrolet in the IndyCar Series, he replied: "There are always several conversations going on - and then things like Ferrari can suddenly fall out of the sky. A year and a half ago I would have said that they were not so interested, but something has changed in their business world and there are new interests".
Also, no doubt Roger Penske would definitely be the one to help change their mind and make it happen as well.
I think it’s they’ve been committed to F1 for such a long time, that they are tired of dealing with their politics and seemingly always changing world with regulations and such. They have threatened to quit F1 on a few occasions. I’m sure they’d love to move on to more simpler things with Indycar. They definitely have a huge market and following here also, so it would make total sense as a business perspective to also market themselves in motorsports here again!
