The Mercedes team have been unbeatable since the V6 turbo era. The German team have won every title possible since then. And they're making a lot of money, too.
Starting next season, Formula 1 teams will not be allowed to spend more than $145million in a season. This is the hope that the teams will come closer together on the track. However, a number of important topics are skipped in the budget cap: the salary of the top management, the drivers are exempt and marketing is not part of cap either.
Mercedes recorded their highest ever income total last season. The team spent £333million according to Motorsport.com. Mercedes earned the most money from sponsorship and the F1 prize money.
The figures reveal that the external income was so large that a net profit of around £30million was made by Mercedes-Benz as a marketing contribution. The number of employees also increased significantly. Last year, 35 new employees were added to the design, production and engineering side.
