George Russell jokingly “blamed” Lando Norris for taking out several cars, including his own teammate’s, during the Brazilian GP Sprint.
“A bit like when you throw the banana around. Smartest guy on the grid.”- George Russell
On lap six, the championship leader ran wide at Turn 3, bringing a patch of water onto the curb that later proved crucial in several incidents at that corner, including his teammate’s crash.
“It’s a kerb you always... in qualifying we use it a lot. Obviously, when it’s wet conditions like this, you kind of want to stay off all the curbs, so I ran a little bit wide and I saw the water come onto the track, but that was it.”
Russell then joked about the incident, “blaming” his fellow Brit for using a Mario Kart-style trick: “A bit like when you throw the banana around. Smartest guy on the grid.”

Finally, Antonelli also shared his thoughts on the unusual incident: “Water came up and actually had a lot of water going into my visor. But I was just trying to stay away from the curbs during the whole race because it was very, very tricky, especially at the beginning.
“Especially when I saw him lifting water, I tried to take a bit more care just to avoid any spins or moments, because obviously, especially sector one was the wettest. it was really crucial to make it tidy in order to make it through as well.”
With his Sprint win, Norris moves nine points clear in the championship, taking advantage of his teammate’s crash and retirement to further extend the lead he had reclaimed in Mexico.
Meanwhile, Verstappen continues to gain on the Australian but loses ground to Norris, with the gap now at 39 points following his fourth-place finish in the Sprint.
Here’s how the Drivers’ Championship standings look after the Brazilian Sprint.
