McLaren CEO Zak Brown has responded to Australian Senator Matt Canavan’s remarks over the team’s treatment of Oscar Piastri.

"I saw what the senator said. Clearly he's very uninformed and uneducated about our sport"
- Zak Brown

Australian senator Matt Canavan, during a session of Australia’s Senate Rural, Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee held earlier this week, caused a stir in the Formula 1 paddock after jokingly asking whether McLaren is biased against Piastri and costing him the title.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Friday, McLaren CEO took the opportunity to respond personally, reaffirming his full support and equal treatment for his driver: "We have done the best we can. Oscar himself has talked about how fair and equitable (we have been).

"We make mistakes but Oscar has been our number one spokesperson. He's never said a single word that anything has ever not felt right.

He finally added: "I saw what the senator said. Clearly he's very uninformed and uneducated about our sport."

Russell claims giving Piastri team orders in Abu Dhabi would be ‘unacceptable’

One of the big talking points heading into the Abu Dhabi showdown is whether McLaren will continue its policy of fair treatment for its drivers or if it will impose team orders when necessary — something Brown has indicated would happen if the Drivers’ Championship slips away to Max Verstappen.

However, Russell, one of the drivers who could play a decisive role in the title fight this weekend at Yas Marina, believes imposing team orders on a driver still in contention for the championship is not “acceptable” and would be unfair.
