Max Verstappen finished the Canadian Grand Prix in satisfying second place. After the race, he talked to Viaplay and explained why he could not go for the win. The Canadian Grand Prix started off calmly, but the ending was anything but. Verstappen said, "The two stints were not good; there was too much wear. " He continued, "Ultimately, we did very well to keep second place since we came in early."
After the first two pit stops were done for both drivers, it was clear that Verstappen would not be able to fight with Russell for the win.
Red Bull unable to compete for the win
He said, "We just don't have the speed. I slide too much when I want to participate, and then you get more tyre wear."
Verstappen continued, "Everything plays a role with the tyres and we're just not that good at it. I always try to fight back, but you can see that we're still lacking a bit."
The Red Bull Racing driver gave another reason to why he could not attack for the win.
"I couldn't attack at all. It was more about correcting, not forcing too much, and looking more in the rearview mirror."
